U.S. sales rise 2.2% in December – Automotive News. U.S. auto sales rose 2.2 percent in December, capping a year that saw overall volume rise 0.6 percent even as automakers endeavored to counter slumping car demand with record light-truck deliveries.

December — with sales of 1.639 million — turned in the second-best month of the year on a volume basis. And the seasonally adjusted, annualized rate of sales in December — 17.72 million — was a high for the year, providing automakers with some momentum and optimism heading into 2019.

Lexus remains dealers’ most-liked brand, NADA survey finds After spending a year out of the top spot, Lexus once again is the most-liked automaker by dealers who responded to the most recent National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Attitude Survey. The luxury brand finished ahead of its mainstream sibling, Toyota, in the winter 2018 survey, the results of which were released Monday. Lexus had been runner-up to Toyota in the previous two surveys, conducted in winter and summer of 2017. Prior to the 2017 surveys, Lexus spent several years atop the ranking. Lexus remained the most-liked brand by dealers in the latest ranking of the National Automobile Dealers Association Dealer Attitude Survey, while Porsche overtook Audi to land in the top five. Toyota was the brand least likely to need check engine repairs over the past year, edging out Acura and Hyundai, which rank No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. Mazda, which ranked second last year, is now the brand with the lowest average repair cost ($286), followed by Kia ($320), Dodge ($326) and Hyundai ($328). Honda and Toyota are the only two brands to rank in the top 10 on both lists. The 2016 Audi Q5 is least likely to need a check engine light-related repair. The 2017 Hyundai Tucson costs the least on average ($67) to repair when the light is on, with a loose gas cap or an improperly installed intake air duct the two most common reasons the Tucson’s check engine light illuminates.
